Today is the one-year anniversary of my Acessa surgery and I’ve been glowing with appreciation all day for the life-changing impact that this surgery had on my life. It’s almost impossible to put into words.
In the couple years prior to my Acessa with Dr. Bruce Lee, my fibroids were causing me such horrible pain that it was difficult to work or even get out of bed for three entire months out of each year (Yep. One week a month x 12 months = 3 months per year just writhing in pain. Not a great way to live.)
I was gaslit by my regular doctors and gynecologist. They were like “period pain is normal, take an advil and use a hot water bottle” as if that would even come close to covering the kind of pain I was in. My period pain was worse than the pain I’d experienced when I had appendicitis! I maxed out every legal pain management option on the market. Nothing helped. My regular doctors said they only saw a couple small fibroids and they put me on the birth control pill which didn’t help at all, and they mostly just left me to struggle on my own.
After studying the entire internet to learn about fibroid treatments, one day I stumbled upon Dr. Lee’s website. If this was a movie, this would be the part when the orchestra starts playing exciting music because you know that the character’s entire life is about to change.
And my life did change. Completely.
Dr. Lee gave me my life back. An MRI and his far more thorough ultrasound process showed that I actually had dozens of fibroids. My uterus was the size of a four-month pregnancy. And he ablated all my fibroids like a nimble miracle-worker. (And side note: He has the best bedside manner of any gynecologist I’ve ever seen. He was kind, compassionate, had a sense of humor, and always made me feel listened to and cared about.)
My periods have gotten progressively lighter and lighter over each of the last 12 months since having Acessa. When I have periods now, they’re short, light, and the pain is nonexistent. Literally nonexistent. As in: Zip. Zero. Zilch. None. This is mindblowing because I truly did not think such a thing was possible, since I’ve had cramps ever I got my first period.
Acessa took my fibroids and my pain away completely (along with a ton of bulk-related pain and discomfort, urinary frequency, and a couple inches off my waistline as my fibroids dissolved). And the only evidence that this surgery happened is a tiny pea-sized dot on my belly.
Dr. Lee, thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you’ve created and for your dedication to womens health and the mission of eradicating fibroids. You are a godsend.
